LG 24GM77 Review and Quick Unboxing (24 inch 144hz 1080p Gaming Monitor)

This is now my main Quake / First Person Shooter monitor. I had a Samsung 27″ 120hz monitor before this. Which is better? In some ways, the LG, in other ways, the Samsung. Still, this is a great monitor, very happy with the purchase.

You can get these monitors from Amazon using this link:

They say it’s a 5ms monitor unless you use the Motion 240 strobe feature … I couldn’t really tell the difference. Even if it is 5ms, it feels great and I’ve played really well on it, even in a fast paced shooter like Quake.

Highly recommended.

  • Currently I am using a very old Samsung SyncMaster 2333 HD (60hz) – I want to upgrade to 144hz but not spend too much money. I wonder between ViewSonic XG2402, LG 24GM77 or the more expensive AOC G2460PG (with g-sync). I am using Nvidia 1070 and I am not sure.

  • Hey Zy! That's funny, I'm actually deciding between the old BenQ XL2411 (or XL2430), the newer version of this LG ( 24GM79) or the new (but unknown) AOC G2590PX ;D Low budget 144hz which I've been wanting for 2 years now with this current setup may finally be coming. But all the mixed reviews and apparent ''screen lottery'' is making me so hesitant… But first I'm going to checkout this review of yours about the Lg's predecessor ;p I prefer sticking to 24" for now though due to space constraints (and budget ones). Can't make up my mind.

  • If anyone watching this and wondering what is the difference between LG 24GM77 and LG 24GM77-B the B just stands for the colour BLACK. Damn i thought i was going to get something else :p

  • The motion 240 is the name of the backlight strobing technology that this (and other LG) monitors use. It is meant to reduce ghosting and give a CRT-like motion to the monitor. Maybe if you'd done an UFO test, for example, you would've seen the difference.

  • Thanks for the review , I'm in a really great dilemma between LG 24GM77 and ASUS VG248QE(which is old by now but still great) ,everyone keeps saying that it has 1ms response time while you state that it's true response time is 5ms GtG . Is this true or are you not that sure? I really have to know because I mostly play fast paced shooters like Cs:Go. Thanks in advance!

  • Hey Rocket Jump Ninja, I am currently looking to purchase a 144Hz monitor and I came across this monitor as it is the cheapest 144Hz monitor in my area. Do you think this monitor is still a good purchase for a 144Hz monitor? The main competitors for me in deciding which monitor to buy would be the AOC G2460PF and the Benq XL2411Z. Thank you.

  • Hello folks. I just purchased this monitor and I have some troubles with it. It feels difficult to position the monitor height. I need to apply force and hold it with both hands. Anyone also experiencing this? My other question is the locking pin. When I adjust the height, lets say medium, when i re-enter it, it doesn't lock it. I can still move up/down. The only time it "works" is when the monitor is pushed down to the max, insert pin, and try to move up – and it locks. Any suggestions??

  • 3:45 You said about 144hz that "It won't help your aim"… Weird, in BF4 not only my recoil is much easier to control but hit registration was better aswell.
