Depths of Fear :: Knossos is a Greek-themed 1st person adventure game with stealth, action and edge-of-your-seat elements within rogue-like procedurally generated levels. You will run. You will hide. You will fight. You will die.

The fate of Athens is in your hands as you step into the role of legendary Greek hero Theseus. Offering yourself for tribute unto the corrupt King Minos, you embark upon a perilous quest deep beneath the city of Knossos to slay the twisted mythical beast – The Minotaur. But, before you can complete this hero’s journey you must steadfast the trials of ever-changing creature-filled labyrinths. Collect gold to deal with Daedalus, building up your armory whilst seeking out the mythological medallions that unlock a master sword, the only weapon known that can pierce the Minotaur’s cursed flesh. May the gods of Greece be with you, son of Poseidon!

  • If one thing Anthem was good about for me is that it brought me to your channel because of the controversy with EA.
    Love your reviews, dude.

  • It's KNossos like you spell CRoss but with 'n' instead. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knossos. Anyway, seems pretty B.A.D. And it shows. :p

  • For a game made largely by a single developer (one who is perhaps more recognized as an indie musician than a game maker), it's an admirable effort. With a more experienced team and significantly bigger funding to back said team, this could have been something to marvel over. Instead, it's gone largely "as is" apart from a few bug passes since this review and the dev had aspirations of releasing a follow-up game (using the follow-up's music as a means of helping fund its development) but things have gone mostly silently since 2016 about it.

  • This was definitely glitchy, but I loved it and played it completely through in a few days. The thing is, its okay to be discovered because you have a lot of stamina and you need to run and hide in the closets and various hiding places. It gets to be a super intense hide and seek game while you try and find the key and get gold. You only ever really should fight the other random enemies on the map or give the main monster an occasional whack when running away. I never really died much either or had too much trouble buying all the weapons and completing the game is ~5 hours. The only truly annoying bug is sometimes when you go in the caves to the other worlds to get keys, you get stuck on the platforms which was insanely irritating. I bought this game for like 3 bucks and its only 6 full price, idk why ggman is being so critical, it was fun as hell.

  • That's a shame man, this game should have been great. They have an awesome setting, all they had to do was make a game that works most of the time.

  • This is the first review I see you doing on a rogue-like FPS like this. Planning on doing one for Ziggurat?

  • The textures are just bad, but I like it, paired with the lighting and such. Gives it a Claymation look.

  • Damn, it's a shame. This game actually looks beautiful, it has a cool 90's appearance, and I like the random dungeons. It's a shame about the AI and lighting. Seems like, with a couple months of fine-tuning, this could have been a masterpieces. Does anyone know if the dev is still working on it or is anyone trying to mod it?
I expect that the problem was the random dungeons.. Very hard to code AI/pathfinding (and often lighting) in random levels. Maybe it was too ambitious, perhaps the dev should have just hand-crafted the levels instead of random gen, since the replay value is pretty low regardless.

  • well knowing that they are monsters is it possible the enemies could have night vision or very good vision which is y they see u in darkness? or is it just a failed game mechanic like you said?

  • I don't agree about the music. I loved the game despite the shortcomings you mentioned and I think the reviews reflect that.
I am always in awe of the developer since he did this all by himself. I mean, I wouldn't be able to do this. This is pretty amazing for even trying. At least he attempted to do something new.

The music was just icing on the cake. It was one of the best soundtracks I heard in games.

  • This game has it's own special charme. It feels like a weird B-horror movie. It is bizarre and weird, but it managed to catch me in it's world with this tense and horrific atmosphere. DoF managed to scare me and in the end I really had fun playing this game.

  • Have you ever played White Day? It's a Korean horror game with an English translation and it's free online. It's first person, though it doesn't have guns. It scares the shit out of me, and unlike this game the light and dark mechanics work.
